What’s your freak flag?

Go on! Let your freak flag fly!

What would you say to someone who told you to express your ‘freak flag’?

This little moment of madness is apparently within us all. This is your ‘freak flag’.

Freak flag: means a manner or appearance of someone, sometimes subtle sometimes obvious, who is or acts a little eccentric, unconventional, unique or individual?

The first time I heard about the ‘freak flag’ was a few months ago when someone told me I was ‘flying my freak flag’ without knowing precisely what it was.

pexels-photo-669004.jpegThe word ‘freak flag’ comes from a song by David Crosby – a hippy singer from the 1970’s.

He sang:-

‘I almost cut my hair’.

Almost cut my hair

It happened just the other day

It’s getting kinda long

I coulda said it was in my way

But I didn’t and I wonder why

I feel like letting my freak flag fly cause I feel like I owe it to someone

I almost cut my hair is right here…

David Crosby is going to inspire your freak flag…. and yes I feel like letting my freak flag fly….

David Bowie said: ‘ I have always had an irrepressible desire to be sth more than human.’ His freak flag flew and flew.

So time to let your flag fly, on this Spring day. Let it fly:-

These guys channelled their freak flag, Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, Madge, Snow Patrol, erm… Jason Donovan? Anyhow lots of people did.

They channelled their music their art, their writing. Thinking differently. Being different. Come on let your freak flag fly!

Listen to your inner voice!

So here’s a three point plan:-

  1. Every time you feel like you are going off course, make a check in with yourself. Does this feel right? Close your eyes and take a break and say. Does this feel right?

2. Is there something you have always wanted to do? Dance? Cook Malaysian. Buy a    zoo?Write down 10 mad things you have wanted to do.

3. What can you do now? Start to fly it now? Listen to your favourite music, dance, turn on the radio, let yourself go.

Here’s that little tune:- Let your freak flag fly…

Just keep on closing your eyes when you are not sure and listen to yourself and let that freak flag fly.

I came to yoga with a bad back and a full mind, lots of constant chatter, no different to anyone else... after 15 years of teaching... my mind still goes all monkey on me, the so called wild horses are still there... but I have it under control, I am aware of it..... my body has never felt so strong... yoga really solves so much...mind body and soul...
